For Immediate Release: Restaurant Owners Beware Drivers, reeling from the high price of gas, save money by eating out less.
Woodbury, New York – May 3, 2006 – To offset the high cost of gas, over half of Americans (54%) report they will eat out less frequently. Even the affluent, those earning $100,000 or more, are affected with 31% reporting they will be eating out less often. The research also found other likely changes in behavior Americans will make include: Percent Likely to Do as a result of High Cost of Gas Running errands close to home 71% Shopping closer to home 68% Shopping less frequently 59% Shopping online more 55% Taking shorter trips 49% Using the car less frequently for vacations 46% Although drivers indicate they are likely to use their cars less for shopping and eating out, the use of the automobiles for commuting to work is not likely to change. The research was conducted in February and March 2006 and surveyed over 5,800 drivers across the United States.
